about

This song began as a piece in the 2021 show “Simple Gifts,” a collaborative theater performance directed by my dear friend Catherine Glynn .That summer, she gathered a group of some really wonderful humans from many different walks of life who happen to all be great artists. In one week, we played, hiked, ate, conversed, laughed, sang, danced, and cried and created a show from scratch while spending our days and nights in the serene wilderness of the forest in the Root River area of Southeastern Minnesota.

The idea was that time can be such a powerful and simple gift to give to someone or to one’s self. There are plenty of different meanings there. I had an idea to reframe the song in a different context and finished writing it on the last day of mixing the first Jest album, “Behaviors,” at Honeytone Studio . Patrick Boland, Jeff Patlingrao and I recorded it that day and had such fun playing with sounds and experimenting. The song is now available to stream. Please enjoy.

lyrics

LYRICS:

Shaking with tears abound and I can barely speak

Trying to figure out how I can get some sleep

I'll wait to say the thing that surely will hurt you

Can't help but think about how much there is to lose

Take your time
I'll take my time

Give me some time
I'll give you some time

One moment more to stay and maybe light the way

This Vacillation causing both of us to ache

With unanticipated anticipant grief

If it's is given space it may just bring relief

about

Jest Minnesota

Restless after live shows and projects went dormant, songwriter, Eric Carranza, found his new material recapturing that lost energy.
The album, Behaviors, is full of the collective salt and grit of prolonged isolation. Full of a crushing vitality that bursts and glides. It’s pressure and release. It says “good riddance” to restraint, shaking off the dust, like there never was any.
